Jagex has officially canceled the RuneScape Reignited project, a new character type initially unveiled at RuneFest 2026. This decision arrives less than two weeks after the studio first announced the initiative, which was originally scheduled for a December 2 launch.

The proposed Reignited characters were designed to feature a distinct economy, separate Grand Exchange, and unique hiscores. These characters would have required a separate membership and were restricted from trading or sharing boss instances with existing Veteran characters, leading to concerns that the project would fracture the player base.

Following an apology on October 6 and an unsuccessful attempt to adjust the proposal, Mod Ryan stated on October 15 that the studio missed the mark. He explicitly referenced the 2012 Evolution of Combat update, noting the long-term negative impact that ignoring player feedback had on the game previously.

Despite the cancellation, Jagex confirmed that other elements of the December 2 update, including the Adventure Guide and the first part of the Remastered Journey, will proceed as planned. While the game maintains hundreds of thousands of members, the studio acknowledged a long-term slight decline in player numbers.
