Key information

Branc has announced the 15th installment of its offline event series, "Dialogue for BRANC," scheduled for November 9 at 19:00. Titled "The Reality of the Chinese Market: Can Japanese Films and Anime Aim for the Chinese Market Again?", the event aims to provide a grounded discussion on the current state of business relations between Japan and China within the entertainment industry.

The event features two industry experts: Yuki Matsumoto, who spent four years as a sales manager at Road Pictures handling distribution and merchandising for Japanese anime in China, and film journalist Xu Haochen, who has long served as a bridge between the two nations' film industries, including roles at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

Discussions will address the complexities of the Chinese market, where political friction has reportedly led to release delays, screening hurdles, and event cancellations. The speakers will analyze whether Japanese content is truly being excluded or if audience demand remains, moving beyond political rhetoric to examine the practical realities of distribution, licensing, and the future positioning of Japanese companies in China.

The event will be held at the IID, Inc. seminar room in Tokyo with a capacity of 45 attendees. Participation requires BRANC MEMBERSHIP registration; the event is free for "Light" members, while general members pay 2,480 yen. Notably, there will be no online or archive streaming, requiring interested parties to attend in person.
