Sega is removing Total War: Shogun 2 — Complete Edition from digital storefronts following a problematic launch. The remaster, which debuted on Tuesday, faced significant backlash from players, resulting in an Overwhelmingly Negative rating on Steam.

The release promised several technical enhancements, including modernized controls, improved visuals, and 1440p and 4K UI scaling. However, users reported numerous bugs and criticized the visual quality, specifically pointing to upscaling artifacts that appear to have been generated by AI.

Sega and developer Creative Assembly acknowledged that the product failed to meet their internal standards and player expectations. The companies are currently collaborating with their development partner, Mataboo, to address these quality issues and implement necessary improvements.

In response to the situation, the publishers plan to reinstate the original version of the 2011 strategy game. While the Complete Edition is being pulled from sale, individuals who already purchased the title will retain access to it.
