Key information

Jagex has officially canceled its RuneScape Reignited project. The initiative intended to launch fresh servers requiring all participants to restart their adventures from the beginning, but the studio abandoned the plan following significant community complaints.

Mod Ryan, a game director, acknowledged the team erred with the announcement. Long-term fans expressed dissatisfaction regarding the prospect of abandoning established accounts to join these new worlds. Furthermore, players objected to the requirement of paying an additional monthly fee for these characters and criticized the project for potentially fragmenting the player base.

The cancellation aims to avoid repeating past mistakes, specifically referencing the 2012 combat update where the studio ignored player feedback. That historical decision permanently altered the game, necessitating the creation of Old School RuneScape and requiring over ten years to restore player trust.

To compensate, Jagex announced a free trial period from December 2 to December 12. This offer provides access to exclusive worlds and content for new characters or accounts without an active subscription since June 2. The studio confirmed that its broader content roadmap for 2027 remains unchanged.
