Jagex has officially canceled RuneScape Reignited less than two weeks after its initial announcement. The project was intended to introduce new character types on unique servers, providing a fresh start for both new and returning players.
The proposal faced immediate criticism regarding potential community fragmentation, limitations on character interactions, and the requirement for a separate subscription fee. Jagex initially attempted to address these concerns by proposing revisions based on player feedback.
Associate creative director Ryan Philpott stated that the studio missed the mark with the initiative. He emphasized that while the company aims to grow the player base, it will not do so at the expense of the existing community.
Despite the cancellation, Jagex is offering a 10-day free trial starting December 2, granting full access to all game content. The studio maintains that its 2027 roadmap remains unchanged following this decision.
