Creative director Mod Ryan announced the cancellation of RuneScape Reignited, a proposed game mode intended to provide a fresh start for new and veteran players. The project was scrapped less than two weeks after its initial reveal at RuneFest 2026 on October 3.

The decision, detailed in an October 15 blog post and video, was a direct response to player concerns. Critics argued that the mode would fracture the existing community, preferring that developers prioritize ongoing game improvements over creating a parallel version of the experience.

Jagex emphasized that the cancellation aims to avoid past mistakes, specifically referencing historical combat changes that took over a decade to recover from. The studio stated that while they want to attract new players, they will not do so at the expense of the current community.

Despite this cancellation, Jagex plans to introduce a 10-day free trial starting December 2 for new characters or those without membership since June 2. Additionally, the studio continues to work on the Adventure Guide, the Remastered Journey, and an Agility skill rework, while maintaining their 2027 roadmap.
