Creative director Mod Ryan announced the cancellation of RuneScape Reignited on October 15, less than two weeks after its initial reveal at RuneFest 2026 on October 3. The project, intended to offer a fresh start for new and returning players, was scrapped following direct responses from the community.

Jagex stated that the decision was made to avoid repeating past mistakes, specifically referencing the long-term impact of previous combat changes. Players expressed concerns that the mode would fracture the existing community, arguing that development resources should instead prioritize ongoing game improvements and updates.

Despite the cancellation, Jagex plans to introduce a 10-day free trial starting December 2 for new characters or those without membership since June 2. Additionally, the studio is moving forward with the Adventure Guide, the Remastered Journey, and a rework of the Agility skill, while maintaining its 2027 roadmap.

Community reception to the cancellation appears positive, with players noting that the decision helps rebuild trust. Meanwhile, Jagex continues development on RuneScape 4, a next-generation version of the MMO built on the Unreal Engine, though no release date has been provided for that title.
