Key information
Creative director Mod Ryan announced the cancellation of RuneScape Reignited, a proposed game mode intended to provide a fresh start for new and veteran players. The decision was confirmed on October 15 via an official blog post and video, arriving less than two weeks after the mode was initially revealed at RuneFest 2026 on October 3.
Jagex stated the cancellation was a direct response to player concerns regarding the potential for the mode to fracture the existing community. Developers emphasized their commitment to avoiding past mistakes, specifically referencing historical combat changes that negatively impacted the game for over a decade. The studio prioritized maintaining the integrity of the current player base over the introduction of a parallel game experience.
Despite the cancellation, Jagex plans to support new players through a 10-day free trial beginning December 2. This event grants access to Members worlds for new characters and those without membership since June 2. Additionally, the studio is proceeding with the Adventure Guide, the Remastered Journey, and an Agility skill rework, while Plugins are scheduled for release on October 19.
Looking ahead, Jagex continues to develop its 2027 roadmap and recently announced RuneScape 4, a next-generation version of the MMO built on the Unreal Engine. While details remain limited, no release date has been provided for this upcoming project.
