Epic Games has introduced a rebuilt Epic Games Store client for Windows and Mac, marking the platform's inaugural support for Linux. The company claims the new software achieves a cold-start time to the storefront that is 46% faster than Steam, with overall startup times reportedly halved.
The client features a redesigned library view and allows users to integrate shortcuts for games installed via Steam or other platforms. According to Epic, the architecture was built from scratch using AI-assisted development tools, a move aligned with CEO Tim Sweeney's broader strategy for company-wide AI acceleration.
While Epic states that these technical performance gains have been verified by an external third party, PC Gamer noted they had not independently tested the software at the time of their report. The client is currently in a preview phase, with Epic planning to expand its user base gradually as they gather feedback and address bugs.
Beyond the client update, Epic is working to upgrade Easy Anti-Cheat to support Fortnite and other multiplayer titles on Linux. However, the company has not yet provided a completion date for this specific integration, and the preview remains subject to ongoing testing and refinement.
