Activision marketing director Tyler Bahl anticipates that the release of GTA 6 will benefit Call of Duty rather than hinder it. The company expects Modern Warfare 4 and the Rockstar title to emerge as the two biggest games of 2026, creating a significant industry moment.

Bahl suggests that the increased media coverage and the hardware sales boost for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S driven by GTA 6 will provide new momentum for Call of Duty. He emphasizes that the franchise's longevity relies on its social experience and community, allowing players to connect across platforms including PC, consoles, and the Switch 2.

The company aims for Modern Warfare 4 to outperform Black Ops 7, which Bahl described as a commercial disappointment. He acknowledged that the previous strategy of releasing consecutive sub-brand sequels failed to meet player demand for innovation, leading the team to pivot toward new experiences.

Modern Warfare 4 early access begins tomorrow, while the Ocarina of Time remake launches on November 5 and GTA 6 arrives on November 19. Following this release, Activision plans to move toward a new sub-franchise in 2027, as Treyarch also shifts focus away from Black Ops.
