Key information

Sony has officially announced the NW-WM1ZM3, a high-end Walkman model featuring a gold-plated exterior. The device is priced at $5,899 and is scheduled for release in January, though the company is currently accepting preorders.

The manufacturer states that the device utilizes a precision-machined, gold-plated oxygen-free copper chassis. This design choice, which includes a 99.99% purity main chassis and specialized low-resistance screws, is intended to improve sound quality by providing a stable ground connection for enhanced bass and high frequencies.

Beyond its physical construction, the player includes a 5.5-inch display and offers 35 hours of battery life. It also incorporates Sony's proprietary DSD Remastering Engine to further refine audio performance.

This release follows the 2022 launch of the NW-WM1ZM2, which debuted at a price of $3,200. While that previous flagship model is currently available on secondary markets like eBay for approximately $1,500, the new iteration represents a significant increase in the company's luxury audio pricing.
