Sony has introduced three new portable media players targeting the audiophile market. The lineup begins with the NW-ZX900 priced at $1,899.99, followed by the NW-WM1AM3 at $2,999.99, and reaches a peak of $5,899 for the gold-plated NW-WM1ZM3.
Technically, all three devices utilize Sony’s DSD Remastering Engine to upsample PCM audio to an 11.2MHz DSD stream. The rear chassis of each unit includes gold-plating designed to minimize noise and interference.
The higher-end NW-WM1ZM3 and NW-WM1AM3 models incorporate hand-soldered oxygen-free copper wiring and enhanced power circuitry. A milled oxygen-free copper block is used to isolate digital and analog circuits, while the NW-WM1ZM3 specifically features a full gold-plated oxygen-free copper chassis.
These devices represent a continuation of Sony's high-end audio strategy. While the new models are now available, the previous NW-WM1ZM2 iteration remains on the market for $2,599.99.
