Developer 4A Games has confirmed that the physical version of Metro 2039 will not be fully playable upon insertion into a console. Players must establish an internet connection to complete the initial installation process before the game can be accessed.
The studio explained via the social network X that the game data does not fit entirely on the physical disc. Consequently, users are required to download additional files to finalize the installation before their first session.
While the title is not playable directly from the disc during the first setup, 4A Games clarified that once the download and installation procedures are finished, the game can be played offline without an active internet connection.
Prospective buyers opting for the physical edition should prepare for this mandatory data download. This requirement applies to the initial setup phase, ensuring the software is complete before gameplay begins.
