Key information

Freehold Games has announced Diaspora, the first expansion for the roguelike Caves of Qud. The primary feature of this upcoming content is the ability for players to control various animals and plants, including cats, dogs, frogs, chameleons, vines, and trees.

The expansion introduces new mutations such as claws, muzzles, and tails, alongside additional creatures and cultural artifacts. Furthermore, the developers are implementing sophisticated worldbuilding algorithms to improve the generation of road and river networks, which are designed to guide players toward interesting locations.

Developer Freehold Games stated that the expansion will launch in early access on December 9th to allow the community to stress test its complex, interlocking systems. The team plans to provide regular updates, with a detailed roadmap expected at the time of the December launch.

Future plans for Diaspora through 2027 include new humanoid factions like the foxen and snailfolk, additional biomes, diseases, and a questline featuring a dromad named Je'ome the Bounty. Base game updates are also scheduled to coincide with the expansion's development cycle.
