Key information
Activision has officially confirmed that it is developing a new subseries for the Call of Duty franchise. This upcoming project aims to introduce fresh adventures, new characters, and a distinct historical setting, marking a departure from the long-standing alternation between the Modern Warfare and Black Ops series.
While official details remain scarce, Tyler Bahl, the head of marketing, stated that the company is withholding specific information to avoid distracting from the imminent launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026.
Unverified reports from the insider GhostOfHope suggest the new subseries may be handled by Sledgehammer Games. These claims indicate the title could be set in the modern era, avoiding futuristic technology or jetpack-style movement, and might incorporate first-person melee combat focused on martial arts.
Although Activision has not confirmed a release date, rumors have pointed toward 2027 for the debut of this new entry. The publisher has not provided further details, and the primary source of these leaks, GhostOfHope, announced their retirement earlier this year citing pressure from Activision.
