Key information
Amplitude Studios has released nearly seven minutes of gameplay footage for Humankind 2, showcasing a strategic shift toward adapting cultures to specific environmental challenges. Unlike the original title, which relied on preset archetypal bonuses, this sequel emphasizes resculpting civilizations to survive across six distinct eras.
A core addition is the Adaptations system, which allows players to select specialized traits based on biome characteristics. For example, civilizations in desert regions might prioritize water gathering, while those in snowy climates can learn environment-appropriate skills from local groups, such as the Thule, to avoid starvation.
The progression system now features unique upgrade trees for every culture, with traits and bonuses persisting through eras. While players can choose to maintain a single, unalloyed civilization, the game encourages evolving cultures into unique melting pots based on diplomatic and exploratory choices. This design addresses previous criticisms regarding static civilizations.
Humankind 2 is currently scheduled for a 2027 release. Interested players can sign up for the Insiders Program to potentially participate in early playtesting sessions.
