Grand Theft Auto 6 is officially eligible to compete for the Game of the Year award at the 2026 The Game Awards ceremony. The organization confirmed the specific cutoff date for titles to qualify for this year's event.
According to the official FAQ, games must be released by Friday, November 20, 2026, to be considered for awards. Since the current release date for GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026, the title qualifies by a margin of only one day.
While nominations are not yet public, expectations are high for the game to appear in most categories. The industry is already speculating whether it could surpass the record of nine wins previously set by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Future iterations of the franchise may also see recognition, as the multiplayer component is expected to launch next year. This potential release, possibly alongside a PC version, could position the title for further contention during the 2027 awards cycle.
