Publishers Sega and developers Creative Assembly have announced the removal of Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition from digital storefronts. The companies admitted the release failed to meet both player expectations and their own internal quality standards.

The Complete Edition introduced 50 minor factions to the game, though this update reportedly caused issues with existing mods. Players have also expressed significant frustration, with Steam reviews currently labeled as overwhelmingly negative.

A primary point of contention involves allegations that the developers utilized generative AI to upscale unit cards without proper disclosure. The studio is now working with platform holders to investigate these technical and quality concerns.

While the Complete Edition is being removed, the original version of Shogun 2 is being reinstated for purchase. Existing owners of the Complete Edition retain access to their copy, and the developers intend to deliver improvements to ensure the product eventually meets expected standards.
