Riot Games has officially announced that League of Legends Classic, a mode designed to replicate the MOBA's early versions, will be removed as a permanent feature. The developer confirmed that the mode will conclude at the end of the current season, with players having until January 2027 to access it.

The decision follows the mode's launch in July 2026, occurring just three months after its debut. Riot Games attributed the removal to low engagement, noting that the majority of the player base prefers spending their time in other available modes within the game.

The mode faced significant controversy regarding its monetization strategy. Players reported that unlockable skins for the Classic mode required separate purchases from the main game or progression through a specific battle pass, which generated notable friction within the community.

Despite its removal as a permanent fixture, Riot Games intends to bring the mode back in the future as a limited-time event. The developer is currently soliciting community feedback to identify successful elements and areas for adjustment before its eventual return.
