The roguelike Caves of Qud is set to receive a new expansion titled Diaspora, which will enter early access on Steam on December 9. Publisher Kitfox announced that the update introduces feature arcs focused on the influx of new life and culture into the game's marsh-moated ruins.
A major addition in Diaspora is the ability to begin a playthrough as a mutated plant or animal. While players could previously mutate into these forms, the expansion allows for the reverse, enabling players to start as a tree and potentially mutate into a human or a more complex, winged, or scorpion-tailed plant.
The early access launch will also introduce new creatures, artifacts, and expanded mutation options. Additionally, the update brings changes to camelfolk trade caravans, including the ability for players to mount saltback tortoises for the first time.
Development of the expansion is expected to continue for approximately one year. Future updates will include a new multi-step questline, additional factions, underground villages, seasonal mega-caravans, and new fungal infections.
