Key information

Riot Games has announced plans to discontinue its League of Legends Classic mode. Following its release in July, the mode will remain accessible until the conclusion of the current season, with a final shutdown scheduled for January 2027.

The studio noted that while many players enjoyed revisiting the game's earlier state, interest has waned as users returned to other segments of League of Legends. Riot intends to reintroduce the mode in the future, potentially as an event-based experience featuring various adjustments and new additions.

Operational changes are currently in effect, including the issuance of refunds for Classic-specific content. Future battle passes will be limited to a free track, and the in-game store will restrict offerings to characters, runes, and rune pages. Additionally, queue windows have been adjusted, though the developer cautioned that players may experience increased match wait times.

Riot Games stated that it is evaluating the project to determine how to improve future iterations. The team is analyzing where the mode succeeded, where it failed to capture the classic experience, and where historical accuracy may have hindered gameplay. The studio is actively soliciting player feedback to guide these upcoming design decisions.
