Key information
Strange Scaffold is developing El Paso, Elsewhere 2, a sequel to the 2023 title that continues the story of James Savage. Players follow Savage as he navigates the Void to save his betrayer. The developer describes the sequel as being to the original what Quake was to Doom, focusing on refined gunplay and a gothic aesthetic.
The gameplay retains the core loop of running, dodging, and slow-motion shooting. New mechanics include mid-air wall-leaping for increased mobility and a dedicated button for throwables like Molotovs. Combat is now more challenging due to increased enemy counts, greater verticality in level design, and the addition of gun-wielding foes that force players to move constantly.
Healing has been overhauled to create a risk-reward system. Players must now use replenishable stakes to melee enemies, then consume the resulting blood to restore health. This requires players to get dangerously close to foes. Additionally, the game features 15 weapons and a reduced scope of approximately 20 levels, which the developer claims ensures each stage introduces meaningful new elements.
The title features a new hip-hop horror rap album by RJ Lake and an instrumental soundtrack by Kalibration. A demo is currently available via Steam Next Fest. The full game is scheduled for release on PC and Xbox in 2027.
