The Overdrive application, which reportedly allowed users to download over 1,600 PS4 and PS5 games on unlocked consoles, has been taken offline. According to claims from the X profile Oliver Darko, Sony Interactive Entertainment allegedly issued a legal notice demanding the project cease operations. However, neither Sony nor the developers have publicly confirmed this notification.

Functioning as an alternative to the PlayStation Store, Overdrive emerged following the release of the Relapse exploit, which supports PS5 and PS5 Pro firmware versions 7.00 through 13.60. The app utilized up to 64 simultaneous connections for downloads and integrated with ShadowMountPlus to display titles directly on the console home screen.

Despite the original repository being removed, copies of the software quickly reappeared on GitHub. Users began publishing versions and updates shortly after the initial takedown. Experts note that because the source code was already distributed, removing a single repository proved insufficient to stop the application from circulating among users.

Users face significant limitations, as the Relapse exploit is incompatible with firmware 14.00 or later. This creates a dilemma: updating the system to play newer titles, such as the anticipated GTA 6, likely renders the console unable to run unauthorized applications like Overdrive.
