Takashi Mochibe, the developer of the simulation RPG Dragon's Chronicles~Reginleiv of the Twin Stars~, recently faced an extortion attempt involving AI-generated clones. An individual threatened to release a clone of his game unless he paid 200 dollars worth of items.

Mochibe responded to the threat publicly on October 18, challenging the extortionist to create a better game if they were capable. He also warned other developers to remain vigilant against similar spam-like threats, which have been reported by other indie creators internationally.

Following the incident, Mochibe reported on October 20 that his game's wishlist registrations increased by 38,400% compared to the previous day. He jokingly invited the perpetrator to send more threats as they served as effective promotion, and he even added the individual to the game's credits as an honorary publicist.

The rise of AI-based imitation has become a global concern for indie developers, leading some to halt progress updates or cancel public demos. Dragon's Chronicles~Reginleiv of the Twin Stars~ is currently scheduled for release on Windows via Steam in the first quarter of 2027.
