Summer Eternal, a studio formed by former developers of Disco Elysium, has officially unveiled its debut title, Red Rooster. The game is described as an incendiary, physics-driven RPG set within the tripartite city of Arta-Tantor.
The gameplay shifts away from the visual novel style of previous projects, instead drawing inspiration from the 3D physics systems found in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and Larian's Divinity Engine games.
Players control Redrick Roost, a white-collar inmate turned arson investigator. He is joined by an opiate-dependent mathematician named Dr. Astrid Albers and a bus driver named Rico, who wields nunchucks as a truth-activist.
While the game features a political alternate-history setting with science fiction elements, the developers distinguish it from their previous work by focusing on the beginning of the future rather than the end of history. The narrative explores a psychological chicken coop of alter-egos during the hottest summer on record.
