Key information

Microsoft and AMD have officially announced the integration of FSR Upscaling 4.1, formerly known as FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.1, into the Xbox ecosystem. This technology utilizes machine learning to generate high-resolution, sharp visuals from lower-resolution rendering, effectively reducing GPU load to improve frame rates and overall performance.

The update is slated for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and the Xbox Ally X. While the Xbox Ally X is scheduled to receive the update within 2025, Microsoft has only stated that the rollout for Xbox Series X|S is coming soon, without providing a specific release date or pricing details.

Scott Van Vliet, CTO of Xbox, highlighted the long-standing partnership with AMD, noting that FSR 4.1 will serve as a vital tool for developers to enhance performance and image quality. The technology is expected to be particularly beneficial for the Xbox Series S, potentially easing the development burden of achieving native 1080p resolution.

Despite these advancements, it has been confirmed that the original Xbox Ally model will not support FSR 4.1. Furthermore, future development efforts are already underway, with Microsoft and AMD exploring next-generation technology utilizing FSR Diamond under the Project Helix initiative.
