Renowned game creator Kotaro Uchikoshi, famous for the Zero Escape and AI: The Somnium Files series, has officially announced the formation of his new studio, CRASH KEYS. While the public announcement occurred on the 15th, Uchikoshi revealed on X that the company was actually established in March of last year.
CRASH KEYS focuses on game planning, direction, and scenario writing. The studio aims to develop original projects that transcend traditional frameworks to provide memorable experiences for global players. Uchikoshi remains a founding member of Too Kyo Games and continues to maintain a close relationship with Kazutaka Kodaka.
Uchikoshi disclosed that a project developed over the past year and a half was recently cancelled. He attributed this to the complex impact of AI on the industry, noting that while AI lowers production costs, market backlash against AI-generated content creates significant challenges for mid-sized projects. He described his situation as losing work specifically because he did not utilize AI.
By making the studio public, Uchikoshi hopes to secure new partnerships or investment opportunities. He is also currently serving as the scenario director for the upcoming 2025 title, Tribe Nine.
