Key information
Canadian indie studio Sugar Slip has released the Japanese version of its dark comedy visual novel, Serial Lover, on Steam. Originally launched in January 2026, the title blends romance simulation with rhythm-based gameplay, tasking players with seducing six serial killers to survive.
The game follows a protagonist who awakens with amnesia in a mysterious mansion surrounded by darkness. Players must navigate a semi-branching narrative to uncover the truth behind their confinement, questioning whether the true threat lies outside or among the inhabitants. Each of the six targets features unique backstories, dedicated rhythm tracks, and distinct endings.
Gameplay mechanics integrate visual novel storytelling with rhythm challenges designed to capture the hearts of the killers. The package includes 23 musical tracks, 19 CG illustrations, and an Arcade Mode that allows players to compete for high scores on global online leaderboards.
Serial Lover is available for 1,200 yen, with a 20% discount to 960 yen running until October 29. The developer notes that the game contains mature themes, including sexual suggestions and disturbing content. The creator emphasized that significant effort was invested in the localization process to ensure a high-quality experience for new players.
