Inde Navarrette, known for her role in the horror film Obsession, has turned to Japanese animation to refine her understanding of storytelling. During a period of professional uncertainty between filming and the movie's release, the actress analyzed popular series to deconstruct their narrative success.
Navarrette specifically studied Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer, noting distinct structural differences between the two. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter on October 14, she observed that Jujutsu Kaisen frequently manipulates chronology and delays key revelations, whereas Demon Slayer follows a more linear progression.
The actress highlighted the effectiveness of delayed payoffs, such as monologues delivered early in an episode that only gain significance much later. She noted that these segments can remain impactful even if the speaking character has died by the time the audience understands the context, a technique she has since applied to her own scriptwriting.
While Navarrette engaged in activities like video game streaming during her career hiatus, she utilized this time to develop creative tools. She emphasizes that while anime provided valuable lessons in narrative construction, it is not the sole influence on her growth as a writer.
