Following the console release of Dune: Awakening in 2025, publisher Funcom has announced further restructuring and upcoming job losses. CEO Rui Casais stated that the company must pivot from full-scale production to post-launch support, noting that they cannot retain all staff members during this transition phase.
The company is shifting its strategic focus exclusively toward supporting its existing titles, specifically Dune: Awakening and Conan Exiles. This organizational change coincides with a leadership transition, as Scott Junior is set to replace Rui Casais as CEO by the end of the year.
Reports suggest these layoffs may be influenced by parent company Tencent, which has reportedly been tightening financial oversight of its subsidiaries since at least December 2025. Tencent previously directed Funcom to prioritize Dune: Awakening over other publishing projects and external investments.
Looking ahead, Scott Junior emphasized that the studio's future efforts will center on delivering gameplay content updates for their core titles. The company aims to maintain close relationships with its player communities while ensuring the studio is structured to support these games in the coming years.
