Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy Resonance, a new title that marks the series' first use of HD-2D graphics. By blending classic pixel art with modern visual effects, the game aims to recreate the traditional Final Fantasy adventure experience for console players.
The game features a turn-based combat system centered on a Break mechanic, where players exploit enemy weaknesses to gain an advantage. A key component is the Vision system, which allows characters to equip 'Vision Crystals' representing heroes from past series entries, such as Cloud and Tidus. This system grants stat boosts, unique abilities, and the ability to trigger powerful 'Resonance' finishers during a Full Break state.
Combat depth is further enhanced by an ability customization system, allowing players to combine learned skills within a cost limit. Additionally, players can summon iconic creatures that participate in battle for three turns, providing strategic options for difficult encounters. The game also features airships, enabling exploration of new areas and dungeons that were previously inaccessible.
While based on the first season of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, the title has been rebuilt for consoles with new scenarios and systems. It functions as an independent RPG, ensuring accessibility for newcomers while including nostalgic elements like legendary protagonists and classic summons.
