Developer Owlcat Games has revealed detailed information regarding the investigation mechanics in Warhammer 40,000 : Dark Heresy. During a recent interview with PC Gamer, principal narrative designer Veronika Larionova outlined how players stepping into the role of an Inquisition agent will wield absolute authority where their word acts as supreme law.

Players will utilize classic investigative mechanics combined with the Imperium's technological arsenal, such as Servo-Skull drones. However, the game grants players total freedom, allowing them to rely entirely on arbitrary instinct and bypass rigorous deduction. Larionova noted that players can accuse any suspect based purely on a whim, even if they feel someone simply breathes in a strange way.

The title embraces the cynical reality of the Warhammer universe, allowing players to deliberately condemn innocent people and act on their own convictions or those of their superiors. While discovering the objective facts is not mandatory, the verdicts chosen by the acolyte will systematically shape the Scintilla sector, unlocking new narrative branches and additional endings while leaving indelible consequences for the local populations.

Warhammer 40,000 : Dark Heresy is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The RPG currently does not have a release date.
