KADATH, a company established in January 2026, is developing the dark fantasy JRPG Under Mythos for PC and Switch, with a planned release in 2028. Led by Yoichi Miyaji, the project features character designs by Atsuko Nishida, a scenario by Takumi Miyajima, and music by Noriyuki Iwadare.
The game centers on a cat searching for its mother in a mysterious hot spring inn. While the inn offers a cozy atmosphere where players serve customers, the underlying world is based on Cthulhu Mythos. Gameplay involves managing the inn and exploring dungeons to gather resources, blending cozy life simulation with darker, cosmic horror elements.
Miyaji aims to explore themes of cosmic horror and modern anxieties regarding AI, drawing inspiration from Lovecraftian concepts like the Shoggoth. Nishida, who describes herself as having a darker creative side, designed the characters to balance cuteness with unsettling undertones. Miyaji notes that while the inn provides a relaxing experience, venturing deeper into the world reveals terrifying truths.
KADATH is actively involving fans in the development process through community engagement on platforms like Reddit and X. Miyaji intends to incorporate fan feedback early in development, noting that the project has already garnered nearly 5,000 Steam wishlist registrations within five days of its announcement. The team also plans to pursue merchandise, such as plushies, to help fans connect with the characters before the game's official launch.
