Publisher Arc Games released Thekla’s puzzle adventure Order of the Sinking Star on Steam on October 9. Developed by Jonathan Blow over a decade, the title features over 1000 puzzles set across four distinct worlds. Players navigate these areas as characters like warriors and mages, uncovering secrets while encountering magical traps and monsters.

The gameplay is built upon grid-based mechanics reminiscent of Sokoban, though it incorporates dozens of unique mechanics across its four regions. Players have the freedom to tackle these puzzles in any order or timing they prefer. The project originated as an experiment in game design and the custom programming language Jai, eventually expanding into a massive undertaking.

On October 16, Blow reported that the game’s first-week sales on Steam were 45% higher than those of his previous title, The Witness. However, he noted that the game is priced 29.99 dollars, which is 25% cheaper than the 39.99 dollar launch price of The Witness. Despite the lower price point, Blow believes the title is achieving financial success comparable to or potentially exceeding his previous hit.

While currently available on PC, the game is also slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. In Japan, the title is scheduled for distribution later this year through the publisher PLAYISM.
