Rockstar Games is aggressively promoting the upcoming release of GTA 6, scheduled for November 19, by transforming Miami into a real-world representation of the game's fictional setting, Vice City. The marketing blitz includes high-profile collaborations with the NBA and NFL, alongside plans for extensive city-wide advertising.
The campaign features a Vice City-themed court and specialized jerseys for a Miami Heat game against the Milwaukee Bucks on November 18. Additionally, the Kaseya Center displays a "Welcome to Vice City" sign, while Hard Rock Stadium has integrated game-themed animations and advertisements into its jumbotron during Miami Dolphins games.
These efforts have encountered resistance from local officials, including County Commissioner René Garcia, who expressed discomfort with the game's depiction of Miami as a crime-ridden location. Consequently, some officials are attempting to block further marketing expansions, such as proposed advertisements at Miami International Airport and a $4 million Miami Beach project.
While Rockstar continues to deploy assets like a branded Goodyear blimp currently traveling toward Florida, the finalization of additional city-based marketing deals remains uncertain. Journalist Joel Franco reported that an unnamed official doubts these negotiations will conclude in time for the anticipated October 15 rollout.
