Epic Games has officially delayed an unannounced shooter featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters. Originally slated for a March 2027 release, the project has been postponed indefinitely as the company shifts its production strategy toward artificial intelligence, according to reports from Bloomberg.

The studio has implemented a new development philosophy described as "no more hand-written code." Under this mandate, developers are instructed to utilize AI tools like Anthropic's Claude to generate both programming code and artistic assets. While human staff will remain to supervise and direct these outputs, the transition represents a significant pivot for the team.

The announcement reportedly stunned employees during a recent internal meeting. Some staff members expressed skepticism regarding the quality of AI-generated work, questioning how they would manage potential errors or if the technology could truly meet project expectations. These concerns follow a period of internal restructuring and previous workforce reductions at the company.

CEO Tim Sweeney has defended the pivot, stating that the goal is to increase productivity rather than reduce headcount. Sweeney aims for teams to triple their output by the end of 2027 compared to January 2026 levels. This initiative is part of a broader collaboration with Disney, which invested 1.5 billion dollars in Epic Games in 2024.
