Kadokawa and Dwango have officially confirmed that support for the NicoNico application on the Nintendo Switch will conclude on March 31, 2027. While the dedicated console software is being retired, users will retain access to their accounts and lists through the browser version of the service.

The application, which originally launched on the platform in 2017, will be removed from the eShop on February 28, 2027. Following this date, the app will remain functional until the final termination of support at the end of March. No information regarding a potential version for the Switch 2 has been provided.

To commemorate the decade-long history of the app, the companies are launching a retrospective campaign for eligible users. Participants who engaged with the service on the Switch between July 13, 2017, and February 28, 2027, or via other devices during specific windows, will receive personalized activity milestones and digital achievements.

Following the discontinuation, viewers wishing to watch content on a television screen must utilize alternative methods such as Chromecast or GoogleCast. The companies have not announced any plans to replace the native console experience with a new iteration.
