Developer Thunder Lotus has officially delayed its upcoming action-adventure title, At Fate's End, moving the release window from this year to 2027. Despite the postponement, the studio released a playable demo on Steam to provide players with a brief look at the project.
The game features real-time action-platforming combat where players control Shan Hemlock, the youngest knight in a family of warriors. Tasked by her late mother to become the next monarch, Shan must travel across various kingdoms to reclaim magical swords from her siblings through intense duels.
The narrative explores complex themes regarding family dynamics, specifically focusing on fracturing loyalties, lingering intergenerational trauma, and the difficult process of healing sibling relationships. The reviewer notes that the game appears to combine an engrossing gameplay loop with an emotionally heavy story, suggesting it may be even more impactful than the studio's previous title, Spiritfarer.
After completing the one-hour demo, the reviewer expressed confidence that the title would have been a strong contender for year-end awards had it maintained its original schedule. While the game shares a focus on emotional storytelling with Spiritfarer, the reviewer observes that it shifts away from themes of death positivity and grief toward internal family conflict.
