Kazuo Hirai, a pivotal figure during the first three generations of Sony consoles, recently revealed that he frequently disregarded instructions from corporate leadership while serving as president of Sony Computer Entertainment.

During his tenure, Hirai often ignored directives issued by Howard Stringer and other executives. He maintained a defiant stance, famously stating that corporate headquarters' opinions were irrelevant because they were PlayStation.

Hirai led the gaming division between 2006 and 2011, a period marked by the turbulent PlayStation 3 generation and the release of numerous memorable titles. He noted that assuming the leadership role was not an easy task.

Following his time at the helm of the gaming division, Hirai eventually transitioned his responsibilities to Andrew House, concluding his influential era as a leader for the brand.
