Jeff Kaplan, the former face of Overwatch and a veteran of Blizzard, has transitioned into independent game development. After a career spanning nearly two decades, Kaplan departed Blizzard following what he described as demoralizing corporate interference.

Kaplan has established a new studio named Kintsugiyama. The studio operates on the foundational principle that game developers, rather than corporate entities, should maintain control over game-related decision-making processes.

The shift from a high-profile AAA director to an independent studio head has proven to be a humbling experience for Kaplan. He noted that he now faces challenges such as building server networks from his dining room and finding that former industry contacts who previously sought his attention now ignore his communications.

Currently, Kaplan is focused on the development of his studio's debut title, The Legend of California. Despite the difficulties of his new role, he remains driven to demonstrate that passionate developers are the primary force behind the creation of great games.
