Valve has officially published the CAD files for its Steam Frame VR headset, granting the modding community access to design and build custom components. This release follows the company's previous initiatives to provide similar documentation for hardware like the Steam Deck and Steam Controller.
The provided documentation covers a wide range of modular parts, including the facial interface, head strap, battery housing, and the light blocker. Additionally, the files encompass the core module and the device's controllers, enabling extensive physical modifications.
Technical documentation for the auxiliary expansion port is also included, which supports powered accessories via a Gen4 PCIe lane. This port, located near the nose bridge, allows for hardware integrations such as the Arcturus Vision RGB camera, offering potential for advanced third-party peripherals.
While Valve is currently developing an upgraded head strap featuring off-ear speakers and interchangeable batteries for future release, the availability of these CAD files may encourage independent developers to create diverse alternatives for the platform.
