Square Enix recently presented Romancing Saga 3: Destinies United at New York Comic Con. This title serves as a remake of a turn-based RPG originally released during the mid-1990s, aiming to blend classic design elements with modern visual and gameplay enhancements.
The gameplay features a stealth mechanic allowing players to initiate a Preemptive Strike. By approaching enemies unnoticed and pressing X to swing a sword, players can begin combat with opponents already missing a portion of their hit points.
Combat utilizes a traditional turn-based system featuring a turn-order indicator. The party includes diverse characters such as Khalid, Peony, Ellen, and Robin. Notably, the team also features a sentient snowman named Flurry, who is described as underpowered relative to other members but remains capable of delivering impactful physical attacks.
The demonstration was set within Gwayne's Den, the lair of a dragon threatening the Louv Peninsula. While the remake updates the original experience, it maintains the core structure of the classic RPG, attempting to balance the design philosophies of two distinct gaming eras.
