Developer Meisomi has unveiled River of Lethe, a psychological horror adventure set within the underworld of Greek mythology. The two-person indie team focuses the narrative on the process of uncovering truths through the memories of the deceased to prove their sins.
Players assume the role of Dikaion, a figure similar to a prosecutor in the afterlife. The core gameplay involves investigating fragments of memory, determining the sequence of events, and identifying participants to reconstruct past incidents. These reconstructions serve as evidence to argue the weight of a defendant's guilt before three judges.
The trial mechanics feature unexpected narrative shifts. Even when a defendant's guilt appears certain, interventions by judges can restart proceedings, revealing hidden truths that challenge initial perceptions. The game emphasizes that there is no single correct answer, leading to two distinct endings based on the player's final judgment.
Visually, the title distinguishes itself by utilizing hand-drawn black-and-white illustrations and paper textures, explicitly avoiding the use of generative AI. Meisomi is currently preparing the game for release on Steam.
