Xbox has officially launched a new division titled XP, designed to broaden the company's reach through four core pillars: Pictures, Products, Places, and Partnerships. This strategic initiative aims to leverage internal intellectual property from Xbox Game Studios to engage audiences across various storytelling mediums.
The Pictures segment will focus on film and television adaptations, while the Products branch will produce collectibles and action figures. Furthermore, the Places division intends to create physical attractions, live events, and immersive experiences, complemented by the Partnerships arm, which will foster collaborations with external creators and brands.
CEO Asha Sharma communicated this long-term planning to staff, highlighting the potential for franchises like Halo, Forza, Gears of War, and Minecraft. The company intends to utilize these established properties to drive engagement and address recent declines in sales through diverse digital and physical entertainment offerings.
Leadership for the new XP division has been assigned to Kayleen Walters, formerly of Mojang. Meanwhile, Maria Angelidou-Smith has assumed control of Mojang, which continues to see success with Minecraft, having reached 425 million copies sold globally.
