Minecraft has reached a significant milestone, surpassing 425 million units sold globally. During the recent Minecraft Live event, Mojang announced The Sift, marking the first new dimension introduced to the franchise in nearly 15 years.
The Sift is described as a vibrant, soul-filled environment. Players will first encounter this area next week within Minecraft Dungeons 2 by navigating through rifts. A release for the Bedrock and Java editions of the core game is scheduled for next year, joining the Overworld, The Nether, and The End as the fourth dimension.
Mojang also detailed an upcoming ice-themed update for the base game, featuring ice caves, a new biome, calcite blocks, and light-emitting ice crystals. Additionally, the developer confirmed that Minecraft is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma highlighted the game's enduring popularity, noting that over 300,000 new players join the community on an average day, despite the title being available for more than 17 years.
