Former developers of Disco Elysium have announced a new studio, Summer Eternal, which is currently developing an "incendiary RPG." This upcoming title aims to combine elements of text-heavy isometric role-playing games with the world-building and player agency characteristic of immersive sims.
The studio is introducing a novel governance structure where players can influence company operations. By purchasing items from the studio, such as the newly announced 500-page Anthology, customers are eligible to join the Players Non-Profit organization. This entity holds a 5 percent share in the studio, allowing members to participate in governance and potentially summon a general assembly to discuss development topics.
This collective approach is intended to provide transparency and allow players to challenge specific features, mechanics, or narrative elements. The studio describes this as an experimental attempt to formalize community decision-making, contrasting with traditional development practices that typically operate behind closed doors until a game is nearly complete.
The Anthology, which serves as both a development diary and a treatise on game production, is available for purchase at €69 for the Standard edition or €99 for the Deluxe Firestarter bundle. The game is slated for release on Mac, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
