A new fan translation has been released for Puyo Puyo Box, a PlayStation 1 compilation that served as the final title developed by Compile before Sega assumed control of the series. The project was completed without the use of AI or LLM-based tools.
The compilation includes ports of the Sega Genesis versions of Puyo Puyo and Puyo Puyo Tsu, alongside Puyo Puyo Quest, an RPG mode where matches replace turn-based combat. Additional content features a Mishmash Mode for single and multiplayer, an Excavation racing mode, and a Puyo Dojo ranked system for local play.
The release also supports the PocketStation peripheral via the Puyommunication tool, allowing players to create and share pixel art and messages. The developer confirmed that the accompanying PocketStation application is fully translated for users.
This translation comes from the same individual who previously released English versions of Puyo Puyo Dungeon and Madou Monogatari for the Sega Saturn. The project is currently available for fans interested in the Japan-exclusive title.
