Krafton recently unveiled PUBG: Deadhaus, a free-to-play multiplayer FPS featuring roguelite progression, during Gamescom 2026. Set in 1996 Cascadia, the title introduces occult themes and grunge aesthetics. An initial closed beta test for console users in the United States and Canada took place from October 9 to 12.
The game utilizes a 'run' system where players manage character health and abilities across multiple matches. Participants select characters with unique traits and earn 'ROM' abilities, such as high jumps or rapid reloading, to enhance performance. Combat involves realistic weaponry and a three-tier equipment system designed to minimize inventory management.
Influencers like 'PUBNanigans' praised the creative ability system and streamlined looting. However, streamers noted significant balance issues, citing overpowered abilities like smoke-piercing vision and headshot negation. Critics also argued that the long time-to-kill (TTK) and heavy reliance on squad coordination make solo play difficult. Technical concerns included clunky movement, frame drops, and an inability to disable background radio music, which caused copyright issues for streamers.
Participants requested several improvements, including a dedicated solo mode, clearer UI, and options to toggle hit markers or music. While the game’s distinct map design and console-grade graphics were well-received, developers face challenges in refining combat balance and addressing player feedback before the next development phase.
