NVIDIA has announced a significant update for its DLSS 5 technology, scheduled for release on October 16. The company claims this update will provide a 2x performance boost for workloads already optimized for the platform.
To achieve these gains, NVIDIA utilized systematic pipeline optimizations alongside neural model refinements. The update also reduces the model footprint by 24%, shrinking it from 148 million parameters to approximately 118 million.
This reduction in model size contributes to a 20% decrease in VRAM usage during 4K gameplay. NVIDIA notes this improvement allows for more capacity for game textures without the neural rendering technology hogging system resources.
Since the initial showcase on two GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs in mid-March, NVIDIA reports that it has scaled DLSS 5 performance by 10x over the course of several months through continuous internal supercomputer optimization.
