Epic Games is significantly altering the production strategy for its upcoming shooter project featuring Disney characters. Originally slated for a March 2027 release, the title no longer has a concrete launch window following a pivot toward an AI-first development approach.

According to a report by Jason Schreier, developers have been instructed to utilize tools like Anthropic's Claude, with internal directives stating there should be no more hand-written code. Furthermore, all art assets for the project are intended to be generated entirely through AI-based workflows, with human staff tasked primarily with guiding and monitoring the technology.

The shift has reportedly caused surprise and internal skepticism among staff, with some employees joking about the potential for AI-generated errors. While CEO Tim Sweeney stated the goal is to enable developers to create more and better content, the project's progress has been slower than anticipated, partly due to Epic underestimating the necessary labor and time requirements following a major wave of layoffs affecting over 1,000 employees.

Epic Games communications director Jack Jones confirmed the company is adopting AI-accelerated development. Sweeney emphasized that this reorganization is intended to prepare the company for maximum acceleration in the AI field, aiming to extend these development benefits to all teams utilizing the Unreal engine.
